Pinterest By The Numbers

I can't believe there was a point in time when I didn't know Pinterest existed! I first learned about it freshmen year from a couple of my highschool teachers, but I didn't take a real interest in it until sophomore year. Once I became a member, I was hooked. I mean I was pinning at least 150 things per sitting!
Over the past two years, Pinterest has been my life saver. The site has helped me decorate projects for school, efficiently organize my life, breathed life into old ideas, and given me plenty of DIY projects to keep my idle hands busy. It has also given me an idea of the proper goals to set for myself in college.
Because of Pinterest, in the fall of 2015, I plan to rush sororities at Clemson University (if they'll have me)! In addition, my junior year in college will hopefully be spent studying abroad in Germany. The country boasts the reputation for the best engineering in the world and is home to the headquarters for BMW.
To dedicate my love for the site, I've decided to spend this post listing a few of Pinterest's statistics and demographics.

  • The site's launch date was in March 2010.
  • There are over 70 million active users with over 30 millions pin and 750 million boards.
  • The original limitations were that each user could have 350 boards 100,000 pins, and 100,000 likes.
  • As of August 2014, it has been extended to 500 boards, and 200,000 pins.
  • 72% to 93% of all Pinterest users are women.
  • The average age of users range from 18 to 34.
  • 60% of users are from America.
  • 1.2 Million users are from Mexico.
  • 80% of the site's pins are repins.
  • 14.2 minutes is the average time spent per visit (Is that even possible)!
  • As of August, Pinterest has raised 338 million for charity.
  • Joy Cho holds the record as the person with the most followers. 13.8 million and counting!
  • A picture of an old couple holds the record for the most comments with 800 plus responses.
  • The most repinned picture is that of a Cheesy Garlic Bread. It's been repinned over 105,000 times. Looks like someone's hungry...
  • L.L. Bean is the brand with the most followers at 5.5 million plus.
  • Pinterest hit 10 million unique users faster than any other independently owned site in history.
  • The site makes 27% more money than Facebook and 400% more than Twitter! Impressive.
  • Fitness, inspirational, and food-related pins are among those that have the highest popularity.
  • Pinterest has recently created a "Pin It" button that can be downloaded and placed into your browser to increase your ability to pin. As if we needed a reason to stay on Pinterest any longer.
